I recently had a 4 port DiSEqC 2.0 switch die on me and probably should consider getting another, since that was my last spare. It's been several years since I purchased one and back then many of the DiSEqC switches were rather unreliable, and easily zapped by lightning or static, or by forgetting to cut the power before connecting or disconnecting anything. Has the technology improved at all? Are any of the DiSEqC switches available today more robust, or is it just more of the same old thing?
Cost is somewhat of a factor. I'm not going to spend a huge amount on a switch because no matter how good it is, a nearby lightning strike will probably zap it, so I never plan on anything like this lasting forever. I could just buy the cheapest switch that comes with some kind of guarantee against being DOA, and buy another each time it fails, but if spending a little more will get me something that's known to be of better quality, that would be my preference.
