PS4 Owners Thread

As history has proven again and again..

If you give someone a camera, they're going to make porn with it. Keep away from the "Playroom."

On an unrelated topic, the new inFamous sold 1 million copies in 9 days, making it the fastest selling inFamous game ever. I attribute that mostly to PS4 owners being hungry for a new game. Still, it'll be one of the first games I try once I eventually get a PS4.

PS4 to introduce Pre-loading of games, starting with Destiny. For those of you who don't know what pre-loading is, it means a pre-ordered game will download before the actual release date. Then on the release date it "unlocks" and actually allows you to play it. The upside to this is that you don't have to wait on release date for your game to download.

I thought they already announced that pre-loading was turned on during the last system update. I don't typically pre-order games but this is a feature consoles needed.

To me the bigger news here is that digital games will unlock at 12:01AM EST on the day of release. Sony doesn't typically update the PSN store until around 5:00PM EST on Tuesdays. Between the pre-loading feature and the games actually unlocking at midnight digital games are finally on equal footing with retail for those hyped up games that people want to play right away.I just checked the online store and it looks like Watch Dogs is already available well before the old 5:00pm update time.

When I was in college we would frequently head to Walmart around midnight for big game releases like GTA IV and stay up all night playing them. This wasn't possible with digital games because they wait most of the next day before updating the online store for some unknown reason. Even unlocking at midnight would be slower than going to the store if you had to wait a couple hours to download. I think this is really good news for those blockbuster game launches even if I will continue to rent most of them. Even if you don't want to preorder until reviews hit getting the game at 12:01 is still a big improvement.

Well, I ended up biting the bullet and traded in my PS3 for a nice shiny new PS4. Sadly it's basically just sitting there as I don't have any games for it, and the free PS+ games this month I'm not interested in. However due to a referral I made on Gamefly my account got upgraded to 2 games a month, so I ditched all my queued 360/PS3 games and made them PS4 instead. Hopefully some of them will come sooner rather than later.

Welcome to the club! Most of the PS Plus games for PS4 haven't been amazing so far. I do like some of them but we haven't seen full retail releases of big games like we have gotten used to on the PS3 yet.

Some of the free game highlights for me so far have been Resogun, Don't Starve, and Dead Nation. Outlast was popular in some circles too but pure horror with no way to fight back isn't exactly my style of game so I skipped that one. I wouldn't be surprised to see Knack or Killzone pop up as the first full retail games available for free sometime in the next couple months.

Agree on the PS+ games for PS4. So far I think they all suck. I have played most of them for a few mins and gotten bored. I hope we start seeing some decent ones soon. You could also play some demos to kill the time between now and when the Gamefly games arive.

Well the main reason the PS4+ games suck is because there isn't many of them. I'm sure over time it'll get better. Hopefully I'll get in on the Battlefield: Hardline beta and that'll give me some time with the PS4.

I guess I wouldn't say they suck. I think most of the free games they have offered are actually pretty decent. I put enough time into Resogun to get the platinum trophy and that is the only one I have outside of The Walking Dead where you get it just for beating the game. Most of them tend to be pretty well reviewed games, they just aren't exactly the kinds of games that get you excited to play your new console.

I agree with Yourbeliefs though, the free offerings will get much better as the PS4 game library gets bigger. They don't want to give away their best games that people are actually buying when there aren't that many choices available yet. If the way they treated the PS3 and Vita is any indication PS4 gamers will be happy with the PS+ offerings. I have all 3 platforms so getting 6 free games a month is a pretty sweet deal even if I already own, or just don't like some of the games offered considering that I only paid $40 for the entire year.

The other thing is that I'm ok with getting free indie/digital only games. I've already played most of the big retail releases they would likely offer as free games anyways. As the library continues to grow and I can no longer keep up with Gamefly that will change but right now I'm more likely to get a digital only game I haven't played than a retail one. I would like to see Transistor, Child of Light, Trials Fusion and several other smaller games at some point.

If I were to pick up a PS4 today, I'd actually be pretty excited about delving in to my PS Plus backlog. The only next-gen AAA titles that would interest me more at this point are Black Flag and Second Son (though I wouldn't spend more than $30 on either one). In fact, the first thing I'd do after setting up my PS4 account is download Dead Nation, which I've already beat four times on the PS3. I've also been wanting to check out Contrast, Resogun, and even Stick it to the Man -- which I guess partly goes to explain why I have yet to get a PS4: just too much I'd still rather play on PS3, including my CDs :D

If you're looking for something to play while you wait for the Gamefly games to show up you may want to look into some of the free to play games on PS4. From what I hear, Blacklight Retribution and Warframe are both competent shooters. I've never played either myself.

Yeah those F2P games I found to be rather lacking. I have a copy of inFamous Second Son keeping me busy, although unless there's a drastic change in the level of fun I'm having it's a shoe in for Third Place for the title of "Best inFamous Game"...

I think I would rank them 2, Second Son, and then 1. When I first finished inFamous 1 I didn't see what all the hype was about. I thought it was a decent game but not great. I almost didn't play 2. The reason I did was because I was hyped from the Second Son PS4 announcement and I had it free from PS+. I'm glad I played it because it improved on the original in just about every way. I liked Second Son but 2 is probably still the high point in the series for me.

I'm playing Second Son right now as well. Having quite a bit of fun. I think I'm about 1/4 of the way through the game. However, I need something new to happen soon or I see it getting repetitive.

If you haven't already, you will start unlocking new powers every so often. That provided a nice change of pace for me.

I wrote a summary of my thoughts when I finished the game here. As I said back then, the game was pure fun for me. Using my various powers to impose my will was enough reason for me to keep playing. I also pointed out that Delsin and Reggie are no Cole and Zeke. The characters aren't as good and neither is the story when compared to inFamous 2.

In a pure fun and gameplay sense I think Second Son is the best in the series. When character and story are factored in it's inFamous 2. I think inFamous 1 is clearly the weakest even if it did provide the base for the rest of the series. As someone who didn't play it when it first came out but instead played it within the last year after playing other modern games inFamous 1 just doesn't stack up.
