Where are my Satellite Guy's gamers at?

Well honestly for YEARS gaming on computers was really a chore. Bash Microsoft all you want, but once Windows 95 came out and we moved away from DOS and adopted DirectX gaming just started to get much better. Also, consoles have basically just become dumb PCs at this point. The old advantage of "it just works" back from the cartridge days are pretty much gone. Now console games are buggy like PC games. I'm not about to declare PCs supreme, and honestly I post the "PC Gaming Master Race" stuff in jest as I fully plan on eventually getting a current gen console. Still, the majority of games I play on my PC are games that are not available on any consoles, so the extra variety I enjoy in games makes my PC a godsend.

I don't plan on being a PC snob by any means because of this but it does open up a whole new world of gaming to me. I'll still stick to my PS4 for a lot of gaming like NCAA Football.

Yeah, we're years from college sports games returning and that depends on how the litigation goes.

It'll likely not be resolved this console generation imo.

Yep, in high school and college me and all my friends bought this game every year to play against each other. I haven't bought it since because I rarely play games with someone in the same room anymore and that's where all the fun from this series came for me. Even though it has been quite a while since I played one of these games I was sad to hear that there probably won't be anymore going forward. For me, the NCAA games were always more fun than Madden, no comparison. I don't think we will ever see another game in this franchise though.

College football in general is in trouble. The NCAA schools have been making billions of dollars on these "student" athletes for years. Now many of these college athletes are claiming that the NCAA is making all this money off them and unfairly refusing to compensate them and it sounds like some courts are agreeing with the athletes.

In addition to the TV money and ticket sales NCAA schools sell these players' jerseys and put their likeness in EA NCAA Football without giving them a cut. No they don't put their names in the game but #2 for Texas A&M is clearly Johnny Manziel.

I never got into the college games because my college wasn't a Division I school, so I didn't know who to play as. Sounds like a dumb reason, but I figured if I wanted to play a football game I'd just do Madden or 2K. I'm sure that wasn't a fun decision for EA to make. I know they made quite a bit of money with that franchise.

I love college football. I've been a season ticket holder for 6 years now to Iowa football games. I have never been the type to buy the game every year, I would wait 2-3 years before I got the new one. Part of the enjoyment for me was manually making up the roster on the game with the current players. This gave me a great way to know every player on the team.

Steam is very weird when it comes to playtime tracking for games that use uPlay. I remember yourbeliefs saying that it was tracking his time as long as he left uPlay open for Rayman Legends leading to him showing 99 hours of playtime for a game that's not super long.

I am having the opposite problem with Farcry 3. I already had about 4.2 hours in from playing last year. Now it is showing a total of 6 hours when I know I've played at least that much in the last two weeks alone. Steam is showing my total playtime for all games in the last two weeks as 1.8 hours.

I look at my playtime after almost every play session to see how long I've been on. The 1.8 hours it is giving me credit for in the last two weeks is almost all from one play session. The other 3 or 4 times I've played in the last two weeks weren't counted at all. There is an outline around your profile picture in Steam. When you're logged on it's blue. When you are in a game it turns green. When I launch Farcry 3. It turns green and then goes back to blue meaning I'm not in a game before it finishes launching all the way.

Now this isn't a huge deal. I'm enjoying my time with the game and that's all that really matters. I do find it annoying though. One of the things I really liked about Steam when I first started using it was that play timer. I like having a semi-accurate measure of how many hours I put into a game. Some games take me 30+ hours and it feels like nothing because I was so caught up in the world they created. I put 4 or 5 hours into other games before I decide they aren't for me and it feels like it was really much longer than that. I wish this was a standard feature on PSN and Xbox Live too.

So far Farcry 3 is the only game that has given me trouble with this feature and I think it must have something to do with uPlay. I guess I'll estimate that I have put in about 10 hours so far and try to keep track of it myself going forward.

I picked up the Far Cry 3 Deluxe edition on the Humble Sale (which you can still do until 1pm EST today here) but I just got a uPlay code, so I probably won't have those time tracking issues. Just hope I get around to the game soon. Maybe I'll install that today.

Update: This is rather odd... FC3 is already in my uPlay library... but I don't remember doing any sort of redemption for it. That's.. a little weird.. And no I'm quite sure I didn't previously buy this game..

I don't think I've had that happen with a AAA game like Far Cry but I have went to buy games on sale several times only to see that I already own it. I think you will like Far Cry 3 though. I know I'm really enjoying it so far. I thought it was a little hard at first when I could barely carry any ammo and hadn't learned any skill points yet but I'm slowly turning into a badass killing machine. A common complaint I've seen is that the hunting/skinning required for crafting things is too graphic for animal lovers. I like animals but this doesn't bother me any more than the violent ways you kill humans in this game.

Speaking of uPlay, I got a free copy of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon from AMD as part of a promotion with my GPU even though they had already given me Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite and It wasn't added to the promotion until months after I purchased my card. They gave me a uPlay code for it but the base game is tied to my Steam account. I hope that won't be a problem when I try to play that game.

Anyone pick up Wolfenstein yesterday? This game wasn't even on my radar but after seeing some video reviews I'm interested. That will probably be the next game I rent when Watch Dogs goes back. I have never played any of the old Wolfenstein games.

I'll get to Wolfenstein eventually. I obviously played the old Wolfenstein 3D and that was fun for the time (although INCREDIBLY frustrating without the use of an in-game map) and I liked Return to Castle Wolfenstein. The Xbox version had INCREDIBLY fun multiplayer, similar to Team Fortress 2 with team/class based battles. I'd play for hours when I wasn't playing Halo 2. Didn't play the last one because I didn't hear a lot of good things about it.

I checked my purchase history and it was added to my library the same date I purchased it, and I didn't claim the key or download the ISO. I wonder if this means somehow I got an extra key or something.. regardless hopefully I'll get to it soon. The way my life is I'm lucky if I get to ANY gaming on a daily basis.

I didn't even realize that there were co-op missions until I watched the youtube video on that store page. Maybe we can try it out sometime if you get hooked on the game and you have enough free time to do it. This looks like a pretty long game to me. You might have trouble just finding the time to get through the main story.

That may be interesting. I can't imagine co-op in FC3 could be any worse than Colonial Marines. It looks though that the CO-OP is just 6 missions, and last about 6 hours total, and is separate from the main campaign. Hell I'd be into it though, but I'll likely get accustomed to the game first before I delve into that.

Looks like I'm in the market for a new wireless 360 controller for my PC. I decided to switch over to a shorter game that I actually have a chance of finishing before Watch Dogs gets here. I'm still hooked on Far Cry 3 but it was becoming clear that the game is too huge for me to knock out by next week. I'll chip away at it as I go.

Anyways, I jumped over to DMC: Devil May Cry for a shorter action game experience. I have never played any of the older Devil May Cry games before this. I went into settings and switched melee and shoot because this is a melee focused game and it felt more natural to me at X than it did at Y. After about an hour and a half of button mashing the X button on my launch day 360 controller started to stick. It kept getting worse the longer I played. The button still worked but it wasn't rebounding normally after a press. If a combo called for hitting X 3 times quickly the 2nd press would be completely missed because the button stuck on the first press. The 3rd press would work again. Besides that I'm enjoying the game so far.

I don't think this is something that's going to magically fix itself and I did get a good 9 years out of that controller so I guess I'll be on the lookout for a good deal on a 360 controller to use with my PC. I think this is the first controller I have ever worn out for any of the systems I've ever owned. I could probably use a new rechargeable battery pack while I'm at it. The one I have still works but it's the only one still holding a charge out of the 4 battery packs I originally bought.

Edit: It looks like Amazon and Target are both selling the official black wireless controller for $35.99. I can get a 2 pack of black rechargeable battery packs for $12 on Amazon to replace the one from my old white controller. I think I'll go get it from Target so I don't have to wait forever for shipping ordering the Friday before Memorial Day weekend.

I also just realized that there will be no mail service Monday. This means that we probably won't know if we are in the first wave of Watch Dog shipments until Tuesday. With the shipping speed I usually get from Gamefly I probably won't get the game until Friday or Saturday even if I am in the first wave.

So here's a question for my fellow PC gamers. When I was looking through my box of random gaming crap for an extra 360 controller last night I saw the box that my Logitech G700s gaming mouse came in. On the side it says it has 13 programmable buttons for more control options in game. Some of those are the standard buttons that every mouse has and some of them are extra buttons. I originally bought it because it had better wireless range and accuracy than the cheap, flimsy wireless mouse I bought with my computer. The extra gaming buttons had nothing to do with my purchase.

Now I'm wondering if I'm completely missing out on a major feature of my mouse. Do you guys use extra gaming mouse buttons? If so what do you use them for? I only use a mouse over my 360 controller for games where a controller either doesn't work or limits the playability. The main games I'm currently using the mouse for are Dragon Age Origins, Diablo 3, and Civ 5 but I have plenty of other games where a mouse and keyboard might make more sense.

I'm assuming that I could assign the clickable items along the bottom bar in Dragon Age and Diablo 3 to these extra mouse buttons. I don't think I've ever seen my extra buttons in keyboard/mouse binding options for any of my games so I'm not sure how I would even assign game functions to these buttons. Do I need to install some software first to make my extra buttons show up in game options? The box says I can assign macros to them too but if I did that I assume it would only work for one game at any given time without reprogramming it for a new game.

Right now I just use it as a regular mouse and completely ignore all the extra buttons. What do you guys do?

I don't have a gaming mouse. Mine just has the standard 3 buttons (left, right, ball click) and then 2 others that I mainly just use for web browsing.

I have a mouse that has a couple programmable buttons and I've only done it. I programmed one button that was used to crouch which made it much easier than trying to do it on the keyboard. I could see it helping with other functions as well, especially a game like DayZ that has a lot of commands.

The order they ranked them in isn't all that important to me and I'm certainly not reading their little write-up of each individual game. I am reading some of them and maybe adding a few games that got under my radar to the list of games I want to play.
