If you are old enough, you can remember when Harmon was a spokesman for Coors during its national rollout. At the time Coors emphasized its wide open spaces origins, and he was seen dressed much like he is in this episode, fishing, hunting, and other such activities.

Anyway, pre-season it was announced that Harmon would appear in six episodes, so maybe they just went with 4, or more likely they will have him show up in a two part deal at some point, probably during sweeps.

If not this year, they are getting close.
Yes.

Renewals are a function of two things, more or less. Ratings and ratings/costs.

So we need to take a hard look at the Gibbs-less ratings, starting this coming week, which is followed by a rerun, then a new show the next week, after which CBS is being unusually quiet about new vs used. If the ratings, particularly after MNF ends and changes the character of the night can remain OK, and the remaining actors are willing to work for realistic (by Hollywood standards) pay, they might squeeze another year or even two out of it.

My money is that they start resolving character’s stories late this year and call it a day.

The potential strike might throw a wrench into things. They will want to end with a full season.

I’m old enough to remember Mark Harmon in 240-Robert.
